Did you know:

• Cellist Delaine Salt plays a French cello made in 1881, and she has been a member of The Phoenix Symphony Orchestra since 1966! The new joy in her life is her first grandchild, born in September 1997.
  
  
• Principal Trumpet Chuck Berginc has played in the San Antonio and Dallas symphonies as well as the State Orchestra of Mexico and Cleveland Orchestra. In 1973, he recorded "Play that Funky Music" with Wild Cherry.
  
  
• Cheryl Bintz plays a violin made in 1840. She has played for The Phoenix Symphony for 18 years. In the summer she plays at Interlochen, Meadowmount, Tanglewood and Spoleto Festival dei due mondi. In her spare time she volunteers at Family Arts Needlework shop, and enjoys in-line skating to stay in shape.
  
  
• Dumitru Lazarescu's violin was made in 1880 by Gaetano Chiocchi. Dumitru was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania; and he currently teaches violin and viola. In his early teens he met Aram Khatchaturian, composer of "Sabre Dance." His hobbies include camera collecting, black and white photography, and playing with his cat, Duncan.
  
  
• Laurie Stearns Selby, cellist, started playing at the age of 11 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She moved to Arizona in 1974 and went on to receive her bachelor's and master's of music performance from Arizona State University. She considers playing for terminally ill patients one of her greatest honors.
  
  
• Fred Marderness, percussionist, grew up in a concert band atmosphere. One year, while playing at the Bay View Music Festival in Northern Michigan, a thunderstorm knocked out the power minutes before the chamber concert started. They played the concert by candlelight and flashlight.
  
  
• Bonnie Wolfgang has been principal bassoon with The Phoenix Symphony since 1976. She received her bachelor's of music from the Curtis Institute of Music. Bonnie has toured extensively throughout the United States and Central America. In addition to having taught Master Classes in double-reed-making, she currently gives private lessons in bassoon and piano.
  
  
• Marlene Mazzuca has been a member of The Phoenix Symphony bassoon section since 1983. She received her master's degree from Temple University and her bachelor's degree from New England Conservatory. When Marlene isn't practicing or making bassoon reeds, she likes to ski, hike, mountain-climb, swim and attend Diamondback games!
