Phoenix Symphony hires new General Manager and Marketing Manager
Former New York Philharmonic Operations Manager and aide to Phoenix City Councilman fill key staff posts, positioning Phoenix Symphony for continued success in 2006-07
(PHOENIX) - The Phoenix Symphony welcomes two new members to The Phoenix Symphony's staff. Former New York Philharmonic Operations Manager Jay Good has joined the staff as General Manager. Former City Councilman aide Matthew Heil has joined the staff as Manager of Marketing and Public Relations. Appointed by President and CEO Maryellen H. Gleason, the two posts will help position the Symphony for continued success in the 2006-07 Season. Mr. Good begins his work with the Symphony in July. Mr. Heil begins his work with the Symphony in mid-June. "We are excited to welcome this new talent to the Symphony's staff," commented Ms. Gleason. "We've taken some tremendous steps this past season and with the collective experience of our new team members, I'm confident that The Phoenix Symphony will continue to expand on the success of this season." Prior to joining The Phoenix Symphony team, Jay Good worked for the New York Philharmonic for more than six years. Five of those years were spent in the role of Operations Manager, overseeing aspects of concert production for all orchestra related activities. Production highlights from Mr. Good's career include a Benefit Concert for the Louisiana Philharmonic, John Adams' Pulitzer Prize winning On the Transmigration of Souls, and many more. Mr. Good was nominated for an Emmy in 2005 in the Outstanding Special Class Program category. He has held administrative posts with the American Symphony, American Russian Young Artists Orchestra, and Roanoke Symphony. Mr. Good was also Associate Principal Cellist for the Park Avenue Chamber Society, Principal Cellist for the New Amsterdam Symphony, and served as Chairman of the NASO Board of Directors. Matthew Heil joins The Phoenix Symphony team from his position as Aide for Constituent Public Relations for Phoenix City Councilman Tom Simplot. As Aide for Councilman Simplot, Mr. Heil has gained an extensive background in public relations, managing all aspects of media relations. Mr. Heil also held the Assistant Editor position with Echo Magazine for three years, writing several stories per issue and managing a variety of crucial aspects of the magazine. He also spent a year and a half as Public Relations Assistant with ASU Public Events assisting with publicity for Gammage Auditorium events. Mr. Heil is the recipient of three Arizona Press Club Awards. Mr. Heil holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from ASU.

Phoenix Symphony welcomes new musicians for 2006-07 season
New appointments include Principal Flute and one-year positions in both the cello and first violin sections
(PHOENIX) - The Phoenix Symphony announces one new full-time musician and the appointment of four musicians to perform in one-year positions during the 2006-07 Season. Viviana Cumplido, Principal Flute, joins The Phoenix Symphony from the Tucson Symphony where she served as Principal Flute for the past three years. She is also currently Principal Flute with the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival. She has performed with the National Repertory Orchestra, and New World Symphony, among others. Ms. Cumplido holds degrees from the University of Southern California and the New England Conservatory of Music. Jing Zeng, Section Violin, joins The Phoenix Symphony for a one-year section position. Ms. Zeng is currently a member of the Virginia Symphony and the Cleveland Pops Symphony. She has held positions with the Canton Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, and Pacific Music Festival, and has performed with the New World Symphony. Ms. Zeng holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Danielle Guideri, Section Cello, joins The Phoenix Symphony for a one-year section position. Ms. Guideri is a member of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and serves as Principal Cello of the Pueblo Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with the Lancaster Festival Orchestra, Queens College Symphony, and Queens Oratorio Society. Ms. Guideri studied in the Pre-college Division at the Juilliard School and holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Queens College in New York. Sarah Koo, Section Cello, also joins The Phoenix Symphony for a one-year section position. Ms. Koo is a member of the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini in Parma, Italy, as well as a member of Trio West currently touring California and Colorado. She has performed with the West Festival Orchestra in Santa Barbara and the Festival Orchestra in Aspen. Ms. Koo holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Juilliard School. In other musician news, current Assistant Principal Cellist Jan Simiz has won the one-year Associate Principal opening and will assume that position for the 2006-07 Season. Originally from Barcea, Romania, Mr. Simiz has been with The Phoenix Symphony since 1985. He has performed with the Sacramento Symphony and the Nouveau West Chamber Orchestra and holds a Master's degree from the University of Southern California.
