2024/25 Phoenix Symphony Gala: A Wicked Night at the Symphony

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, we welcomed supporters back to the Phoenix Symphony’s Gala for the first time in five years. Themed “A Wicked Night at the Symphony,” the black-tie affair began with a cocktail reception, followed by an exquisite three-course dinner in a hall transformed with sumptuous green and gold décor – an homage to the iconic Emerald City.

Co-Chairs Rick McCartney and Dr. Korwyn Williams, MD, PhD, hosted the elegant evening, which honored philanthropists Bruce Covill and Lucia Renshaw. Under the direction of emcee Cory McCloskey and auctioneer Ana Aja, guests bid enthusiastically on exclusive items, with auction proceeds fueling the Symphony’s Mind Over Music STEM education program – a first-of-its-kind initiative connecting musicians with classrooms across the Valley.

The highlight of the evening featured a moving, intimate performance by Stephen Schwartz and friends. They treated the audience to several Wicked favorites: “The Wizard and I,” “Because I Knew You” and “Defying Gravity,” among others. The evening concluded with a lively Oz Afterglow celebration, where guests mingled, danced, and enjoyed desserts alongside orchestra members and guest artists.

“A Wicked Night at the Symphony” was a shining success – blending Broadway brilliance with fundraising excellence, community spirit, and unforgettable elegance.
