Earl Maneein heard on the Dillinger Escape Plans Dissociation opens heavy metal violin concerto

April 24, 2017

Earl Maneein, a violinist featured on the Dillinger Escape Plan’s Dissociation, premiered his heavy metal violin concerto Dependent Arising this past weekend in Phoenix, AZ.

The unique metal-meets-classical piece was performed by Rachel Barton Pine and the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, as conducted by Tito Muñoz.

Maneein also plays violin with Seven Suns, his metal-influenced string quartet. The group performed on Dillinger’s Dissociation, the progressive metal band’s sixth album.

“I’m completely blown away and moved by the opportunity to bring metal music and culture into modern western art music as a viable influence,” says Maneein of Dependent Arising, noting that the new three-movement concerto was composed from an interest in “thrash, death and black metal, grindcore, mathcore and hardcore punk.”

Check out a video of the concerto in rehearsal below.
