Grammy Winner Kenny Rogers To Headline

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Symphony announced today that Grammy Award winning music legend and American icon Kenny Rogers will headline THE Concert, the annual benefit for The Phoenix Symphony, on October 29, 2011.  Rogers will be accompanied by The Phoenix Symphony under the baton of the Virginia G. Piper Music Director Michael Christie.  THE Concert will be followed by THE Encore, an evening of live music, dinner and dancing at the Phoenix Convention Center Ballroom, steps away from Symphony Hall.  Both events will also feature performances by some of the Valley’s most talented, young musicians.

Known for instantly identifiable raspy vocals and an extraordinary ability to vividly inhabit each song he performs, Kenny Rogers has sold more than 120 million records worldwide and recorded more than 65 albums during his 52 years in show business.

“I can’t think of a more exciting and entertaining way to kick off the Symphony’s 2011-12 season than with the amazing talent of Kenny Rogers together with the superb musicianship of The Phoenix Symphony,” remarked Nan Howlett, Chair of THE Concert and THE Encore. “Most of all I am thrilled to partner with our Symphony patrons and community to support the Symphony’s vital Education and Community Outreach programs through this exciting event.”

Rogers long list of timeless classics includes an impressive 24 #1 hits – “The Gambler,” “Lady,” “Lucille,” “She Believes in Me,” “Islands in the Stream,” and “We’ve Got Tonight” among them. Rogers’ Greatest Hits album has sold over 24 million copies worldwide to date.  He is the RIAA’s 8th best selling male artist of all time with one Diamond album, 19 Platinum albums and 31 Gold albums. He was voted “Favorite Singer of All-Time” in a joint poll by readers of USA Today and People and has received hundreds of awards, including three Grammys, 11 People’s Choice Awards, 18 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards and five Country Music Association awards.

Tickets for THE Concert with Kenny Rogers and The Phoenix Symphony only range from $75 – $150. Tickets for the entire evening’s events including THE Concert, dinner, and dancing to the music of Affinity start at $500. Corporate and table sponsorships are also available.

Since 1954, the Symphony’s annual benefit has raised millions of dollars for the orchestra and presentation of classical music throughout the Valley.  Proceeds from this year’s event will support The Phoenix Symphony’s education, outreach, and artistic activities including concerts for school children, family programs, and other performances throughout the state reaching a total of more than 300,000 adults and children each year.
