The Phoenix Symphony Continues Cutting-edge B-Sharp Music Wellness A W.O.N.D.E.R. Project with Initiative to Help the Homeless and Alzheimer’s
Symphony’s Education Outreach Extends to Local Health Centers
PHOENIX-The Phoenix Symphony’s signature health and education program, B-Sharp Music Wellness: A W.O.N.D.E.R. Project continues in the 2014-15 season joining other outreach initiatives by The Phoenix Symphony.
B-Sharp Music Wellness’s: A W.O.N.D.E.R. Project for the Homeless is a multi-faceted music wellness experience for healthcare and community facilities that serve the homeless. The primary goal of the initiative is to use music as a catalyst for joy and self-expression for individuals who often feel powerless and silenced. As these individuals connect with music, and in some cases rediscover lost talents, they gain confidence, strength and self-esteem. These joyful experiences help transcend the obstacles of poverty and will be held at the following locations: Tumbleweed Center for Youth, Lodestar Day Resource Center, St. Vincent de Paul, Circle the City, and UMOM New Day Centers.
B-Sharp Music Wellness: A W.O.N.D.E.R. Project for Alzheimer’s is a program designed for individuals with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias as well as their care partners, participants attend Friday morning Coffee Concerts and receive an exclusive pre-concert chat about the day’s music with Principal Timpanist Bruce Pulk. Other optional program components include backstage tours and a “lunch on your own” with fellow participants at a nearby restaurant following the concert. Registration and discounted ticket purchase required. The first program takes place October 3 with a pre-concert chat at 10 a.m., one hour before Coffee Classics Program for Appalachian Spring at Symphony Hall.
