The Phoenix Symphony Performs Handel’s Messiah Throughout The Valley
Father/ Daughter Duo join Maestro Tito Muñoz, Including Opera Great Rod Gilfry

PHOENIX – Your favorite holiday tradition continues as Virginia G. Piper Music Director Tito Muñoz leads the The Phoenix Symphony, its Chorus and soloists as they perform Handel’s Messiah in churches and venues throughout the Valley.

Joining Maestro Muñoz this year are Rod Gilfry and his daughter, Carin.  Rod is a Grammy-nominated baritone and a staple at the operas of the music capitals of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera Covent Garden.  He is well known for his roles in André Previn’s A Streetcar Named Desire opposite Renee Flemming and in Annie Get Your Gun opposite Deborah Voigt.

Now a Christmastime staple, Handel’s massive oratorio is often thought of as most majestic music ever conceived. Messiah makes a profound musical statement of the Christian faith and the acclaimed and popular “Halleluiah” chorus highlights this spiritual concert.

Popular from its debut, this piece burst onto the stage of Musick Hall in Dublin on April 13, 1742. It was so popular that ladies in attendance had heeded pleas by management to wear dresses “without Hoops” in order to make “room for more company,” according to the Smithsonian.

The following are dates, times and venues for Handel’s Messiah.
December 10, 7:30 p.m., Scottsdale Center for the Arts
December 11, 7:30 p.m., Mesa Arts Center
December 12, 7:30 p.m., Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center
December 13, 7:30 p.m., Camelback Bible Church
