This summer, Phoenix Symphony cellists Laurie Selby and Fred Chao have been leading a heartfelt series of hospice performances in memory of their friend and colleague, Mike Brown. A beloved trombonist with the Symphony for 37 years, Mike passed away in September 2024.
Coordinated by Laurie—well-known for her work in our Health & Wellness and Education programs—the 16 visits to date have often featured Mike’s wife, flutist Pam Brown, along with other Symphony musicians. Together, they bring live music to hospice patients and their families, honoring Mike’s life and the care that supported him and Pam.
These performances are a touching tribute to a cherished member of our Symphony family, and a reminder of the power of music to bring comfort, connection, and remembrance.
