Frontdoors Media: Instrumental Leadership

The Phoenix Symphony Association announced today that Katie Cobb has been named Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer of The Phoenix Symphony, overseeing Marketing, Development, Patron Services, Finance HR and IT. Additionally, the Association announced the appointment of Jeff Hunsinger as General Manager of The Phoenix Symphony, responsible for Operations, which oversees the artistic, orchestral and production needs of the Symphony.

“We are committed to fostering long-term success for the Symphony and believe that with the appointment of Katie Cobb in her new role, we have the leadership in place to achieve this goal,” said Jim Ward, President & CEO of The Phoenix Symphony. “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Jeff to The Phoenix Symphony, and we look forward to working with him as we fulfill the Symphony’s mission to provide the joy of music as a catalyst in helping Arizona become the best place in America to live, work and raise a family.”

Katie Cobb has been instrumental in the turnaround success of the Symphony. She has led the way over the past three years through innovative marketing, development and community outreach programs by driving a 74% increase in overall revenue, 107% increase in contributed revenue and 44% increase in earned revenue. Cobb has also been responsible for a complete re-branding of The Phoenix Symphony Association including a dramatic new website and a social and direct media database strategy, along with an unprecedented level of media coverage of the overall Symphony transition. In addition to her responsibilities over the Development, Marketing, Patron Services and Education and Community Engagement departments, Cobb will assume management of Finance and Administration, and IT Services so that the entire external facing organization will run smoothly and efficiently.

Prior to joining The Phoenix Symphony, Cobb was a managing partner for Actual Media LLC, a media, marketing and communications company. Additionally, Cobb was a national news producer for Fox News Channel based in the Los Angeles bureau, and with NBC’s America’s Talking in New York. Prior to these positions, Cobb served as the Deputy Press Secretary for Arizona Governor Fife Symington.

Jeff Hunsinger’s career is singular in its focus on music. His life-long love of music began with private music lessons at an early age, continued with work as a recording and broadcast engineer, and led to the past eleven rewarding years as an orchestra manager.

A native of northern California, Jeff Hunsinger joins the Phoenix Symphony by way of Indiana where he served as General Manager of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. During five seasons in Fort Wayne Mr. Hunsinger worked closely with Music Director Andrew Constantine to create new programs and develop the organization’s presence regionally through partnerships, education activities, and community-focused programs.

From 2003-2009 Mr. Hunsinger held the position of Director of Operations with the Arkansas Symphony. In this role he was instrumental in generating new projects including the re-design of its annual gala, Opus Ball. Additionally, he raised the level of artistic excellence through events featuring prominent guest artists such as President Bill Clinton, Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Aretha Franklin.

A musician by training, Mr. Hunsinger studied clarinet and guitar receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a focus in Recording Arts, Music Industry and Business Administration from California State University, Chico.

After completion of his degree, Mr. Hunsinger focused on recording and broadcast engineering and spent several years recording at the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Edgar Stanton Recording Institute, The Banff Centre for The Arts in Alberta, Canada, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana.
