Michael Christie Return to Phoenix to Conduct Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5

PHOENIX – Music Director Laureate Michael Christie returns for his second and final appearance in the 2014/15 season to lead The Phoenix Symphony as they perform Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5 January 16 (11 am and 7:30 p.m.) and January 17 (7:30 pm) at Symphony Hall. The 11 am concert on January 16 is part of the Coffee Classics series featuring one hour of music selected from the weekend ‘s program.

The evening also includes The Phoenix Symphony’s own Principal Flutist Viviana Cumplido Wilson, with Nielsen’s intimate and melodic flute concerto. The program begins with selections from Edvard Grieg’s expansive Peer Gynt including the ever popular theme “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”
