A native of Red Lodge, Montana, Doug had the extraordinary advantage of studying bassoon with Susan Wadsworth, former musician of the National Symphony. He also benefited greatly from summer festival work with Carl Rath at the Red Lodge Music Festival. He spent his high school summers at the Interlochen Arts Camp, studying with Eric Stomberg and attended the Academy there his senior year of high school.

Doug attended the Juilliard School in New York City where he studied with Whitney Crockett, former Principal Bassoonist of the Metropolitan Opera, now Principal Bassoonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Doug actively participates in chamber music and community outreach, maintaining a robust private studio. When not engaging with music, he’s an avid cook, hiker, lover of the outdoors and a dedicated dog, fish, and plant dad. Come say hi at the stage door any time you wish!
