Fedor Malykhin first came to national attention in 2015 when he made his first solo debut with the Voronezh State Philharmonic performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Since then, Malykhin has appeared with notable orchestras including the National Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Tolyatti Symphony Orchestra and Gnessins Academy Symphony Orchestra.
Malykhin has competed across Europe and was named the First Prize winner of the Zagir Ismagilov International Competition, Ohrid Pearls International Competition and Rizzardo Bino International Competition. He serves on the roster of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth and Saint Petersburg Music House through which he has engaged in three invite-only master class festivals at the Music House Summer Academy and English Hall of Saint Petersburg Music House performing for Boris Kushnir and Alexander Shustin. Other master class appearances include performances for Cho-Liang Lin, Paul Neubauer, Ilya Kaler, Elisabeth Adkins, Pavel Vernikov, Tomas Cotik, Eugenia Chugaeva, Alexey Bruni, Michael Kugel and Gernot Winischhofer.
Malykhin’s orchestral experience includes performing regularly with the Dallas Chamber Symphony Orchestra, Plano Symphony Orchestra, Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, Irving Symphony Orchestra and McKinney Philharmonic Orchestra. He previously held positions with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Residence Orchestra, Concertato Chamber Orchestra and Moscow Chamber Orchestra. He also participated in the Round Top Festival Institute in Round Top, TX where he performed several cycles as Concertmaster and the Music in the Mountains Festival in Durango, CO.
As an avid chamber musician, Malykhin has collaborated with renowned chamber musicians, orchestral players and international soloists including Brett Deubner, Stephen Balderstone, Aaron Boyd, Barbara Sudweeks, Will Roberts, Jesus Castro-Balbi, Roger Myers, Tomas Cotik and Christiano Rodrigues. In addition, during his time at the Round Top Festival Institute, Malykhin and his string quartet were selected to perform Claude Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor in a concert to highlight premier ensembles. From 2018 to 2019, Malykhin performed for the Carnival Cruise Line with the Carduelis Trio, performing in over 150 engagements and transcribing over 60 pop songs for string trio.
Maklyhin currently is a violin and viola private instructor at Lewisville ISD and previously taught at the Tchaikovsky Academic Music College at the Moscow Conservatory, Second Omsk Music School and North Texas Conservatory.
Born in Russia and currently residing in the US, Fedor Malykhin first began studying piano at the age of four with his mother. At the recommendation of the teachers at his local music school, he began studying the violin at the age of six and quickly took to the instrument. He studied at the Gnessins Russian Academy of Music, Conservatorio di Parma Arrigo Boito and the Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts and is currently pursuing a degree at the University of North Texas where he has been awarded the Brock String Scholarship. His principal teachers include Emmanuel Borok, Julia Bushkova, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Aaron Boyd, Pierre Lapointe, Alexander Dogadaev and Alexey Koshvanets.
