Phoenix Symphony to perform in Elementary Schools around the Valley
Symphonic ensembles present cross-curricular concerts for K-8 students
PHOENIX – Beginning Monday October 4, 2011 The Phoenix Symphony heads to school for its annual Classroom Concerts with performances in schools throughout the Valley. Resident Conductor, Joseph Young and musicians from the orchestra perform and moderate a program that inspires students to become involved in school music programs, provides an intimate concert experience and creates a deeper understanding of orchestral music.
“The Phoenix Symphony Classroom Concerts give students an opportunity that I was not given growing up; the opportunity to experience a performance by professional musicians at such a young age,” said Joseph Young, Resident Conductor for The Phoenix Symphony. “Our programs are geared to teach students about music and possibly inspire some of them to be involved in music.”
For over 30 years, The Phoenix Symphony String Ensemble, Brass & Percussion Ensemble and Woodwind Ensemble perform at nearly 30 schools reaching approximately 12,000 students. The Classroom Concerts engage students and cultivates musical interest in schools. The goal of the program is to introduce students to live orchestra music by bringing the concert experience to them and to supplement the school’s music program. The program utilizes core concepts found in the Arizona State Arts and Learning Standards. Starting on October 4, Phoenix Symphony musicians will be performing in schools throughout the valley to provide young girls and boys with music education. We are offering a unique opportunity for media to capture the inspiring interactions between children and professional musicians.
