Beethoven with BeyoncéThe Phoenix Symphony is fusing Beethoven with Beyoncé in a groundbreaking innovative performance led by music visionary Steve Hackman, who is renowned for creating other highly acclaimed concerts that mix classical music with Queen, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Radiohead and Drake.

Beethoven X Beyoncé will be held 7:30 p.m. May 30 & May 31 at Symphony Hall. Created by Hackman, he will also serve as the guest conductor for the Phoenix Symphony orchestra. The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps Drumline, part of the Arizona Academy of the Performing Arts in Tempe, will perform during the concerts.

Beethoven X Beyoncé celebrates and elevates all things woman. Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, the symphonic repertoire’s most joyful and exuberant celebration of dance, is the canvas onto which 15 of Beyoncé’s most popular songs are interwoven including “Girls,” “Crazy in Love,” “Sorry,” “Cuff It,” “Single Ladies” and “Texas Hold ‘Em.” The production’s emotional peak is when two of the most recognizable melodies from each composer are intertwined: “Halo” and the hauntingly beautiful second movement of Beethoven.

Hackman performed “Resurrection Mixtape” with the Phoenix Symphony last season, mixing classical music with Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. in a transformative exploration of life, death, legacy, struggle and triumph.

“Our audience so thoroughly enjoyed ‘Resurrection Mixtape’ last year that many enthusiastically encouraged us to invite Steve Hackman back for another concert this season,” said Peter Kjome, Phoenix Symphony President and CEO. “The Phoenix Symphony is thrilled Steve Hackman can return to Phoenix. It will be a night of musical magic and we’ll end the 2024-25 season on a high note.”

Tickets to Beethoven X Beyoncé are expected to sell out soon.
