Overview

Associate Conductor Alex Amsel leads this program with two pieces inspired by faith. Soprano Liv Redpath joins to sing Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, depicting a child’s vision of heaven. This remarkable program also includes Carlos Simon’s AMEN!, an exuberant piece inspired by Pentecostal Church music, reflecting the composer’s upbringing.

 

Friday Coffee Classics: Mozart & Mahler

Former Phoenix Symphony Associate Conductor Alex Amsel returns to lead a moving 90-minute Coffee Classics program featuring Carlos Simon’s Amen and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4.
Soprano Liv Redpath, fresh from performances with Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl, joins the orchestra for Mahler’s radiant vision of Heaven. Enjoy pre-concert coffee and a casual talk beginning at 10:05 AM, and stay after for a lively post-concert conversation with Alex and the musicians.
