June 4, 2024
This was my first season as Acting Associate Principal Clarinet and Second Clarinet with the Phoenix Symphony. In reflecting on the 2023-2024 season, I’m grateful for the wealth of experiences this year has brought, and for the many opportunities the symphony has granted me.
One of the many highlights was my participation with the Phoenix Symphony’s Education and Community Engagement programs. I’ve gotten to perform for students as part of Mind Over Music® lessons, play in several classroom concerts, teach lessons in STEM using musical techniques to students at the Durango Juvenile Detention Facility and bring live music to the Lodestar Day Center and Circle the City. Each of these experiences has been fun, meaningful and rewarding. These opportunities have been particularly helpful to me as a new musician with the Symphony, as they have allowed me to get to know the Phoenix community and connect with populations I would have never gotten to share music with otherwise. The Education and Community Engagement programs have also been an invaluable way for me to get to know my colleagues within the Symphony.
I love playing chamber music and getting to do it with the wonderful musicians of the Phoenix Symphony has been a joy this year. I’m excited to continue my involvement in these programs through the summer and into next season. I’m happy to know that the Phoenix Symphony is dedicated to reaching a diverse array of audiences throughout the Phoenix community.
