The Phoenix Symphony Presents Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” at Several Venues
Saxophonist Amy Dickson Makes North American Debut with The Phoenix Symphony

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Symphony presents Copland’s Appalachian Spring on October 2 at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, October 3 at Symphony Hall as a part of the Coffee Classics Series, October 4 at Symphony Hall as part of the Classics Series and October 5 at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church.

Maestro Tito Muñoz continues his triumphant and dynamic inaugural season with Aaron Copland’s quintessential masterpiece, Appalachian Spring. Reminiscent of an idealized America, Copland’s harmonic and luxurious Pulitzer Prize-winning ballet suite has become one of the most inspiring and symbolic works of the 20th century.

In this program, Maestro Muñoz also debuts classical saxophonist Amy Dickson; the #1 UK Classical artist who has won Breakthrough Artist of the Year will make her first North American appearance. Hear her unique sound in John Williams’ lively and energetic “Escapades” from Catch Me If You Can, as well as in Jennifer Higdon’s Soprano Sax Concerto which has been called a “significant testament to beauty.” The evening begins with Morton Gould’s Spirituals.

“Amy Dickson is a celebrated Saxophonist and a personal friend of mine, so it gives me great pleasure to bring her to Phoenix for her North American debut,” says Muñoz.

Please note that Friday morning Coffee Classics performances feature one hour of music selected from the weekend’s program.

Media Availability: Media is invited to attend the dress rehearsal on October 1 at 1:45 p.m. Amy Dickson and Tito Muñoz are available for interviews upon request.

Tickets start at $18 for Symphony Hall performances. All tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 602-495-1999 or online at phoenixsymphony.org.
