Fall Update from President & CEO, Peter Kjome

September 20, 2023

Dear Friends,

We look forward with excitement to the 2023-24 Season of the Phoenix Symphony. I hope you will join us for our 77th season to create lasting memories with friends and family.

The upcoming season will be truly extraordinary, and after a decade with Tito Muñoz as our Music Director, the institution’s artistic growth has been substantial. In this final year of Tito’s tenure, we reflect on the important accomplishments achieved in partnership with our musicians and look ahead to an exciting season of astonishing breadth and variety. You will not want to miss these incredible programs.

In addition to our concerts at Symphony Hall, Mesa Arts Center, and other venues across the Valley, we continue to fulfill our mission through our community engagement and education programs. This year, these programs will reach an economically and ethnically diverse group of 125,000 participants. These programs engage multiple generations, and our four concentrations include education and lifelong learning, health and wellness initiatives, Mind Over Music®, and a research initiative. After working in the orchestra field for many years, I believe these programs are among the finest in the nation.

The Phoenix Symphony is incredibly fortunate to have a strong, dedicated group of community leaders on our Board of Directors, and we were thrilled to welcome remarkable new board members this week. With the guidance of our Board, we are collaborating with our superb musicians, talented staff, and other leaders to advance the orchestra and its programs. Together, and with the generous support of our community, we seek to ensure that our artistic excellence is superb, and that we achieve and sustain the operational excellence and financial resources needed to serve our community.

We are delighted that our radio broadcasts on Classical Arizona PBS DTV 8.5 and KBACH 89.5 FM return this season. Every Monday at 7 p.m. starting September 25, we invite you to enjoy world-class performances recorded live at Symphony Hall. Please tune in to hear your orchestra on your public radio station.

Whether you are a lifelong resident of Phoenix and Arizona or a more recent arrival like me, this is your Symphony. I am optimistic about the future because of the engagement and enthusiasm of people who care deeply about the Phoenix Symphony and its future.

We need and appreciate your ideas and advocacy, and I am eager to hear from you. Your partnership, generosity, and commitment to the Symphony are crucial to the continued success of our great orchestra. Please contact me at [email protected] with any comments or suggestions.

Sincerely,

Peter Kjome, President & CEO
