By David Salazar

The Phoenix Symphony has announced that Alex Amsel will be the company’s new Associate Conductor.

A graduate of Peabody Conservatory, Amsel was most recently the Resident Conductor for the Houston Grand Opera and spent three seasons as Assistant Conductor for the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked with such organizations as the Aspen Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, Round Top Music Festival, and Philadelphia International Music Festival, among others.

“The Phoenix Symphony is thrilled to welcome Alex to our Symphony,” said Tito Muñoz, Phoenix Symphony Music Director, in an official press statement issued by the company. “His leadership on the podium along with a commitment to integrating music into the fabric of every community aligns with our values as a Symphony. He is a true emerging talent, celebrated for his passion to advance what classical music can do for audiences of all ages.”

The company’s 2023-24 season will include performances of “Carmina Burana,” “Messiah,” and “Four Last Songs.”
