Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya leads the orchestra in Ravel’s evocative Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2 and the composer’s glittering La Valse, two musical triumphs by one of the most accomplished orchestrators of all time. Violinist Richard Lin is soloist in Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole, a fabulous showpiece by a French composer, sprinkled with Spanish flavor. Brazilian composer Clarice Assad’s Bonecos de Olinda, inspired by the massive papier-mâché puppets used during annual Carnival parades, completes the program.

About Miguel Harth-Bedoya, guest conductor

Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Emmy award-winning and Grammy-nominated conductor, is a master of color, drawing idiomatic interpretations from a diverse and wide range of repertoire in concerts across the globe.

Celebrating more than 30 years of professional conducting, and with a deep commitment to passing his experience on to the next generation of musicians, he is currently the Mary Franks Thompson Director of Orchestral Studies at Baylor University, and Music Director of the Baylor Symphony Orchestra where in addition to performing, he teaches orchestral conducting at the undergraduate and graduate level.

He has also established The Conducting Institute to teach the fundamentals of conducting to students ages high school and up, of all levels, through intensive summer and winter programs, workshops, courses, and seminars.

Harth-Bedoya has amassed considerable experience at the helm of orchestras, including recently completing tenures as Chief Conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and as Music Director of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, where he now holds the title of Music Director Laureate. Previously he has held Music Director positions with the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand and the Eugene Symphony in Oregon, the Lima Philharmonic Orchestra in Peru, and the New York Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall. He also held the Director of Orchestral Studies position at the University of Nebraska, Omaha.

 

About Richard Lin, violin

Taiwanese-American violinist Richard Lin continues to gain international prominence since his Gold Medal prize at the 2018 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Following his June 2022 Carnegie Hall Stern Auditorium recital debut, New York Concert Review asserted, “Richard Lin. Remember the name. For he has everything required to take the world by storm.”

Richard’s 2023/24 season includes appearances as Guest Concertmaster, soloist and chamber artist with the esteemed National Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan and Japan. He will also appear in recitals throughout the United States, including performances with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center as a member of the Bowers Program.

Richard has collaborated with numerous orchestras and performed at celebrated concert venues throughout the world including the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra under conductor Norichika Iimori at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. Other orchestras with whom he has worked are the NDR Radiophilharmonie; Indianapolis, North Carolina, Shanghai and Singapore symphonies; Poznań, Łódź, Polish Baltic, Nagoya, Taiwan, and Oklahoma City philharmonics; Hong Kong Sinfonietta, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Amadeus Polish Chamber Orchestra, and the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, among others. He has also appeared at the Summit Music Festival and Music@Menlo.
