Christopher Gross, a James Beard Award-Winning Chef, to Serve as the Luncheon’s Chef
PHOENIX (April 5, 2024) – The Phoenix Symphony today announces a community favorite event, Savor the Symphony, which will honor Virginia G. Piper Music Director Tito Muñoz with a grand final luncheon at 11 a.m. on May 7 at Symphony Hall.
Christopher Gross, the chef at Christopher’s at Wrigley Mansion and a James Beard Award-winning chef, will serve as the chef for the lunch.
Savor the Symphony is one of the performing arts organization’s signature events. Guests receive exclusive access to “eavesdrop” on an orchestra rehearsal, meet guest artists and enjoy a luncheon curated by one of the Valley’s preeminent chefs. The event has been held for many years with sold-out gatherings and is returning this year after the pandemic.
The 2024 Savor the Symphony honors Muñoz, who is concluding his tenure at the Symphony after 10 years as Music Director of the exceptional orchestra. Muñoz’s tenure is one of the longest in the organization’s history. In addition, the event will honor the memory of Sue Glawe, who served as Chair of the event in the past and provided important leadership to support the Symphony and its programs.
Savor the Symphony is a primary source of funding for the Symphony’s Community Engagement, Education, and Health & Wellness programming. Annually, the Symphony and its musicians empower more than 125,000 students through education and partnerships and create opportunities for deeper connection for tens of thousands of adults experiencing homelessness, in Alzheimer’s care facilities, in hospitals and in hospice.
“Serving our diverse community is a foundational component of the Phoenix Symphony’s mission, providing greater access to extraordinary musical experiences for the people of Phoenix and Arizona,” said Peter Kjome, Phoenix Symphony President and CEO. “We are excited this year that Savor the Symphony will recognize Tito’s remarkable contributions. In addition, we are glad to honor the memory of Sue Glawe and her inspiring leadership.”
Letitia Fryer, known as America’s foremost “auctiontainer,” will oversee a live auction. Jennifer Holsman Tetreault, an innovative legal, business and community leader and the vice president and associate general counsel for TPI Composites, is the chair of the event. She also serves on the Symphony’s Board of Directors.
