Canadian violinist Boson Mo will begin the role at the beginning of the 2023/24 season
The Phoenix Symphony has announced the appointment of Boson Mo as its new concertmaster, beginning with the 2023/2024 season. Mo will hold the Herberger Foundation Concertmaster Chair and will begin his tenure when the Symphony opens its season with Carmina Burana in September.
’It’s a huge privilege to be joining The Phoenix Symphony as concertmaster starting this September,’ wrote Mo on social media. ’I had a really wonderful time working with the musicians, the administration, and [music director] Tito Muñoz at TPS this January, and I’m exceedingly grateful and humbled to be offered this chance to return and make music with this great community of musicians and artists.’
’We are thrilled to welcome Boson Mo to The Phoenix Symphony following an extensive national search process,’ said Peter Kjome, Phoenix Symphony president and CEO.
Prior to joining The Phoenix Symphony, Mo served as a member of the Houston Symphony and recently served as acting assistant concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He toured Europe as part of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 2022 and has also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Mo has featured as Young Artist in Residence of American Public Media’s ’Performance Today,’ and has been broadcast across the US as well as internationally on Radio New Zealand and CBC Radio Canada. He was named as one of Canada’s ’30 under 30 Top Classical Musicians of 2015’ by CBC Radio Canada.
Mo was a recipient of the ’Prix Joseph-Rouleau’ at the 2010 Montreal International Violin Competition as well as a top 25 candidate at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition and is a winner of Canada’s Sylva Geber Foundation Award.
A graduate of both the Cleveland Institute of Music and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, Mo currently performs on a violin by Joseph Curtin.
