The Violin Channel: Phoenix Symphony Appoints New Concertmaster

July 31, 2023

Violinist Boson Mo will step into the role as of the 2023/24 concert season

Arizona’s Phoenix Symphony has recently appointed Boson Mo as its new concertmaster. He will begin his time in the position at the opening of the 2023/24 season, when he will lead the orchestra in a performance of Orff’s Carmina Burana.

Mo comes to the Phoenix Symphony from a position in the Houston Symphony. He has also served as the acting assistant concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony, and has played with the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

His many achievements include winning third prize at the 2013 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, receiving the Prix Joseph-Rouleau at the 2010 Montreal International Violin Competition, plus reaching the final 25 at the 2015 Tchaikovsky Competition.

He is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where his teachers were Paul Kantor and Keqiang Li.

“We were privileged to have Boson serve as guest concertmaster for a Classics week last season,” said Tito Muñoz, the Music Director of the Phoenix Symphony. “Audiences in Phoenix will delight in his spirited performances, exceptional artistry, and commitment to every note.”

“We also appreciate Boson’s commitment to the Phoenix Symphony’s vital role in providing a broad range of programming across the Valley.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Boson Mo to The Phoenix Symphony following an extensive national search process,” added Peter Kjome, the orchestra’s President and CEO.
