A Cirque Nutcracker Debuts in Mesa This Holiday Season

This December The Phoenix Symphony and Troupe Vertigo will bring the world premier of A Cirque Nutcracker to Mesa Arts Center.

“This is an entirely new way to experience this holiday favorite,” said Phoenix Symphony president and CEO Jim Ward. “Clara’s journey has always been fantastical, but Troupe Vertigo takes it to a whole new level, literally and figuratively. They’ll leave you gasping in amazement.”

The symphony will perform Tchaikovsky’s classic score while former Cirque de Soleil artists — including contortionists, aerialists and jugglers — perform 40 feet above, exhibiting limberness, dexterity and strength.

“Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcracker’ is one of the crowning masterpieces in the marriage of music and narrative and it has inspired choreographers to reinvent the visual experience time and time again,” said Troupe Vertigo director Emmy Tu.

Evening performances will take place on December 15, 21, 22 and 23. Matinees will take place on December 23 and 24.
