Everything from Pops to films to holiday programming on tap
A wide range of classical, popular, film and holiday performances are on tap for the Phoenix Symphony’s 2024-25 season.
The Symphony, which will open its 78th season in October, announced its programming lineup Tuesday.
The new season will bring classical masterpieces, guest artists, and new concert experiences to the Valley from Symphony Hall, Orpheum Theatre and Madison Center for the Performing Arts to Arizona Financial Theatre and the Musical Instrument Museum.
“The breadth of the Phoenix Symphony’s 2024-25 season reflects our dynamic and vibrant community,” Peter Kjome, Symphony president and CEO, shared in a press release. “The season ahead is of particular importance as we embark on the search for our next Virginia G. Piper Music Director, who will help advance our shared vision of the Symphony.”
2024/25 Classics season:
Featured works include Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony,” Holst’s “The Planets,” Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1,” Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique” and more.
Phoenix Pops lineup:
Includes Tony-award winning composer Stephen Schwartz, Tony nominee Ann Hampton Callaway, renowned Phoenix native Tamika Lawrence singing the greatest hits of Tina Turner, and beloved Holiday Pops.
Blockbuster films with live orchestra:
Experience films on the big screen as the Phoenix Symphony performs the epic scores to “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Bugs Bunny at the Symphony,” “Jurassic World,” and “The Empire Strikes Back” in concert.
New this 2024/25 season:
- Coffee, Conversation & Classics – At Symphony Hall. Alex Amsel, Phoenix Symphony associate conductor, hosts and moderates these working, open rehearsals. Experience the Symphony during the day as they rehearse. Participate in a Q&A after the rehearsal in a casual and intimate experience.
- Chamber Orchestra Series – At the Musical Instrument Museum. Antonio Vivaldi’s beloved concertos known as “The Four Seasons” are paired with four tangos written by Ástor Piazzolla, which echo the seasons of his home in Buenos Aires in these four Chamber Orchestra performances.
- Family Concert Series – At the Madison Center for the Performing Arts. The Symphony Family Concert Series invites children and families to explore the intersection of music and ideas through concert programs. Kids have the chance to try their hand at instruments in the Instrument Petting Zoo in the lobby and will have an activity guide made especially for each musical adventure.
- More Holiday Performances – Traditional Holiday Pops, Handel’s “Messiah,” and new holiday brass and organ, Cirque holiday, Christmas with brass and chorus, and a New Year’s Eve celebration.
